The SC-2 Project

Oct 15, 2007

I got this SC-2 from Yo Eleven on the GbL site. It is a site for G&L enthusiasts.  I was looking for a project, and here it is.  The project was fairly complete, meaning that it was missing the pickups.  It includes string tree & screws, all of the trem stuff.

Looking at the body, it was pretty obvious that the paint was in rough shape.  A friend of mine, Jeff from Detroit, suggested that I use Citrus Strip (CS) to remove the existing paint.  CS is a fairly thick, gooey, solution that you spread on things.  Jeff suggested I put the guitar in a plastic bag and let it “fester” few days, and then scrape off the paint.  I put the CS on today, and then threw it in a plastic bag.  CS is pretty sticky, and the bag pretty much stuck to it.

In the process I got the date from the neck pocket, which is Feb 11, 1983.  The neck date is  Mar 3, 1983.  So it is all pretty close.  One thing that I find curious is that the neck does not have a serial number.
